How To Make A Rainbow Balloon Column

October 25, 2022

Rainbow balloon columns are extremely versatile and fun! You can use a rainbow balloon column for birthday parties, pride celebrations, or any other kind of celebration. Balloon columns are the perfect air filled balloon creation because they are easy to make, they don’t need any helium, and they add a beautiful pop of color to any event.

In this example I went ahead and combined violet and indigo to just be purple, it seemed to make the process a lot easier and gave me an even number of colors.

First, you will need to decide what kind of air-filled balloon column you are going to make.

1. Gather All Your Ingredients

2. Inflate Two Balloons

3. Tie Into Duplets

1. Gather All Your Ingredients

● Rainbow Balloons

● Balloon Stand (Wood Balloon Stand)

● Hand Pump

For this example; I used a total of 48 balloons: 8 red balloons, 8 orange balloons, 8 yellow balloons, 8 green balloons, 8 blue balloons, and 8 purple balloons.

2. Inflate Two Balloons

Begin by inflating two balloons of the same color. Size your balloons as you go.

Make sure to round out your balloons after you inflate them so they all fit together better. This step will reduce the space between the clusters and make your balloon column look much better.

This step is done by holding the neck of the balloon in one hand and making a fist. Place your other hand at the nipple of the balloon and gently but firmly push your hands together until the balloon has more of a rounded shape.

3. Tie Into Duplets

Tie the two balloons you inflated, sized, and rounded from step one into a duplet.

4. Repeat

Repeat steps two and three until you have all of your balloons inflated and tied into the same color duplets. (Ex: two red balloons tied into a duplet, two orange balloons tied into a duplet, etc.)

5. Attach Balloons To Stand

With one red duplet in one hand and another red duplet in the other, start with one duplet on each side of the stand, and bring them together. The balloons in your left hand will end up on the right side of the stand and the balloons in your right hand will end up on the left side of the stand.

6. Repeat

Continue attaching clusters until all of the colors are added to the stand. Two clusters of reds, two clusters of oranges, two clusters of yellow, two clusters of green, two clusters of blue, and two clusters of purple.
